#23 Men’s Lacrosse Team Beats St. John Fisher 8-7

Pittsford, N.Y. -- The 23rd ranked men’s lacrosse team (3-1, 1-0 Empire 8) defeated Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher (3-2, 0-1) 8-7 Wednesday.  Freshman Mike Cintineo (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) led the Bombers with a career-high three goals. Sophomore Matt Hammes (Homer/Cortland) scored the game-winning goal with three minutes left in regulation.
 
The game was tied 3-3 at the half, and the Cardinals took a 6-5 lead in the third, but the Bombers collected three goals in the fourth to take the win 8-7. Senior Doug Lumb (Auburn/Auburn) added a goal and two assists. Sophomore Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.), the team's leading scorer, scored a goal as well. 
 
Hammes and sophomore Mike Nowak (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) both scored their first goals of the season while freshman Mike Giunta (B. Reed Henderson/West Chester, Pa.) netted his second season goal and first assist. 
 
Junior Dennis Butler (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) had 10 saves in recording his third win of the season.
 
#23 Ithaca’s next face-off will be Saturday, March 24 at #12 Geneseo at 1 p.m.
